The Boat Rambler
Португалия
Добавлен 20 дек 2018
I love sailing and fishing, and being a keen DIYer, I will be making my own boat (s) and exploring any place I can take my boats to!
I'll go fishing, camping, foraging, sailing up rivers and estuaries and admire some cities and villages from an angle most don't...from a boat!
During my journeys I'll might even show you how to catch & cook, Portuguese way!! 😉
I’m sure great adventures await me in Portugal's waters, so jump onboard!

Unveiling the Amazing Cartopper's First Adventure!
And the time has come for the amazing cartopper skiff's first trip away from home! We drove to Albufeira lagoon and what a great day.
Loading the skiff on the roof rack was just as easy as unloading it!
Re-rigging still takes a bit more time than I want but I have a few ideas to shorten that time!
With beautiful summer weather we set sail to the far margin to enjoy the peace and quiet of the secluded beach, accessible only by boat.
once there we met with a local legend, Rui Meira, windsurf champion and owner of Meira Pro Center right here by this lagoon.
the weather turned cloudy all of the sudden so I had to do some more sailing ofc!!
In the end it was an almost perfect day out!!

A Few Upgrades on My Car-Topable Skiff
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.14 дней назад
After finishing the cartopping apparatus (prototype) it was time to make the first mods on my skiff to get her closer to being a cruising skiff! Main purpose of the build was to be able to sail different waterways so I need it to take some gear as well. This week I fitted some hatches and made the bow coaming to mount the halyard and downhaul cleats in a way so that I can adjust these from the ...

With my DIY boat loader prototype nearly finished it was time to try it a few times before I reinforce welds and such. This is meant to be a game changer for me as it will allow me to take my boat to different waterways on my own. It worked as intended although not as smooth I would like but definitely good enough for the job at hand. Getting the boat on and off the roof rack was really easy. ⭐...

Soloing My New Skiff for the First Time
Просмотров 8 тыс.2 месяца назад
Weather forecast quite favorable I decided to launch my new skiff and solo it for the first time. Last week I tried my Oz Goose in stronger winds and with Marina as crew and we had a blast. How would the Goose respond to lower wind speeds and solo sailing? Sailed upwind, beam reach, rinning with winds ranging from 7 to 10 kts and gusts to 17kts. Althoug the skiff behaved differently she still d...

Fora de água tem um aspecto desajeitado, mas revela-se super eficiente em termos de portabilidade e navegabilidade. Talvez umas rodas pneumáticas mais largas ajudem na areia. Foi a escolha certa. Abraço e divirtam-se
Such a lovely day. Thank you for taking us with you. Wonderful camera/editing work, much appreciated.
I hope your videos make more lovers of sailing aware of this boat and your car rack design. I am a very happy subscriber.
Que local incrível! Que imagens espetaculares! Que barco rápido! Que vídeo! 🤩😎
a great accomplishment finished
Perfect day Teo, really starting to take to the goose, ripper little boat, bet the pint went down well, cheers 🍻
excellent video , seems like a very stable boat very little heal ,dont know what your wind speed was , i reckon a bigger sail area for more advanced sailors like yourself ,would make it even more fun boat could handle it for sure
What a great day!!
Fuckin A
Agora sim acertas te no bote :) aproveita
Tens de dar uma voltinha! 😁
Nice boat! I’ve also built a GIS and an OzGoose and just loved the stability of the goose as well as Mik’s ultra-simplified rigging for it.
Was the sealant/glue sikaflex? I looked for a link etc but couldn’t see anything. I’m doing some mods on my yacht that could well use dim of your commonsense solutions Teo.
Hi buddy, it's a sealant and glue by Fischer, Fischer MS Nautical Sealant Adhesive
@@TheBoatRambler ta mate. I’ll have a look for it here
A great sailer…..and that lagoon is quite something!
Inspiring.... this is a boat for me.... now to just do the hard work of retiring and moving closer to water and building one :) ty
You wont regret it! 😉
Great work on the boat and the roof loading solution. May you have many pleasant adventures.
Thank you!
cool boat

obrigado
Nice, I just have sailed four days on GIS and got couple of reasons why you switched to Goose. Looking forward for your explanation and if it worked the way you expected.
Have you watched the first impressions video? 😉 ruclips.net/video/oh9ekSvhskM/видео.html
Excellent, Teo, great to see the project put to use just as you'd planned!
all good so far! 😁
Great result! I can't figure out if this hull is planing or not? The bottom of the planing hull should be flat and without bending upwards in the stern.
At around 6-7 kts you get the feeling of planning...but at higher speeds I had it planning alright! ruclips.net/video/vku9563nT6o/видео.html
Super! Your videos are now simply professional! Great achievement Teo!
Thanks Enrico! 😃
Looks like a fabulous ̶b̶o̶x̶ boat for such tricky conditions, big enough for crew, small enough to be carried & launched.
It's a game changer!! 😉
Beautiful 😁❤
Thank you! 😊
Fabulous Teo 😃. That is a superb place to sail 😎, despite the weed mud and pong 👌. The goose is definitely a winner despite being a bit of an ugly duckling 🙏. Im very impressed with your roof rack/unloading system 😎. Is that a commercially available one or is it something you have made especially 🤔.
Hi Dave, the loader was made by myself, specifically for my roof bars.
I have been following your whole series. on the OZ Goose. I bet the Michael Storer has been receiving's lots of orders for plans.
Makes me think about building one as practice for a Scamp.
Has your Goat Island been receiving any love?
My Goat is well loved ! 😉
@@TheBoatRambler That is great to hear. ♥
It was wonderful to watch. Thanks.
Thanks for watching.
Hi, Teo, and thanks for another great video! Regarding the trolley, many people here in Brazil use discarded tires from small, single-engined planes, or from small toy motorcycles. They are fat and will surely help in the sand.
Plastic wheel barrow wheels cheap, light and easy to come by.
thanks guys!
back to adventure time, YAY !!! ( I would just purchase a telescopic tiller extension and get back adventure, you're time is worth something )
Great idea! 😉
Looks like a great day and a great sail!
I enjoyed it a lot Teo. Question for you: is that beside the seaside resort of the same name on the Algarve? I remember many decades ago being there near Faro I think. There was a hotel called Sol e Mar. is that the same place (or just inland from it)?
No. The Albufeira resort/city, is in Algarve. This lagoon, with the same name, is near to Lisboa, about 45 min by car. In portuguese, "albufeira" has the meanings: 1. Shallow depression, covered with water, that communicates with the sea when the tide comes in. 2. Artificial lake created by a dam.
Hey buddy, as Alex said, it's not the same place/region.
@@TheBoatRambler I could have looked at a map, couldn’t I? Haha. Anyway I thought I’d ask. Brought back some great memories. And I’m loving the boat. While my needs have changed, I’m also still keen to see what you end up doing with the boat to accommodate camping overnight. Btw what does your wife think about it? Does she find it more stable? It certainly looks that way in the video - and fast acceleration.
halfway through the video I DO show a map of the lagoons location! 😁 My wife prefers the Kingfisher 30 where she can just lie down on the bow deck's comfy cushions and get sun till almost melting point! 😂 The Goose stability is like nothing I ever tried and being light it does accelerate very fast, if it had a little bit less rocker it could be just a tad faster to plane...maybe.
@@TheBoatRambler At Linda’s direction I had to create an almost normal double bed in the aft cabin of our boat (not that I minded one bit. We both spent way too much time in the sun as kids, and we are both essentially Anglo stock and that pale skin so loves to attract skin cancer, so we are avoiding, not seeking the sun’s rays. The Goose is a wonderful boat. And you are an excellent ambassador for the design. To look at it you would not think it could sail at all. So boxy. But it does and does easily.
A great boat and a great place to sail. Ideal for anyone with children who are learning to sail and maybe even more so for children who want to be more adventurous.
Or adults who want to play at being children!
I used to come here many times when I had a windsurf board here in the club, 30 years ago!
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Boa noite, aqui é do Brasil.
Oi Paulo. O mastro é quadrado, tem cerca de 4m de comprimento e 65mm de largura ao nivel do deck.
Very nice and useful video! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
well done~!
That wooden mast looks heavy. I wonder if it would sail better with an alumunm sail frame rig.
The mast is hollow and weighs 10kg. Some people have made aluminium masts and others even carbon masts. I'm quite happy with this hollow box mast!
I have been seeing the owner of that boat pop up on quite a few sailing channels on youtube. He and his boat are gaining some notoriety I think he should start his own sailing RUclips channel. Anyone know if the boat owner has a RUclips channel?
Great video. Lovely boat.
Many thanks!
Some 4 years later here I am watching your boat build video 👍 I am quite surprised it’s Simple’s to build , it looks great and can be done with simple hand tools , some sand paper , good glue , maybe some nails and screws , a first time boat builder would be very happy with this to build , the boat sails beautifully in your other videos , I’m going to look for the plans to build this one , I do like it , I also got a clinker in mind , the boat building bug certainly has bitten me. 🤣
The construction is simple, just epoxy and glass tape, no nails! 😉
Awesome video buddy , I’m seriously thinking of building a dinghy sailor , I have built a canoe and a 13 ft skiff run about , and now I’m getting itchy fingers to start building another boat , I sailed hobbies and laser sailers in my teenage years and love sailing , I like the clinker style boats but is a lot more work with ribs and planking etc , I really want to learn the skill of planking and steaming ribs etc , it’s the craftsman ship I’m looking for and a personal challenge for me , my skiff was a stitch and glue method and fibreglassed inside and out , your boat is a little ripper and gets along fast who knows I may build one like this in the future as well. 👍
Thanks!
正在建造中,因为看了你的视频,现在在组装船体。希望您能回复我,我会很开心,来自中国的Peter
Hi Peter, congratz on the build! 💪💪
That modification is brilliant. Perfect open cruising skiff.
I suggest you take your drill and saw with you on board to drill some extra holes to access your equipment after a wild ride.:) Normally you only make a hatch like that to carry out repairs from the inside. I can't see how you will reach your equipment that has been shifted to the end of your float after a wild ride. But hey, don't let that spoil your enthusiasm... you can still train a little monkey:):)
Hi @lindamarceline silly me, I wish I had thought of the hatches during the build so that I could fit some bulkheads inside the tanks at maybe an arm's length or 45cm from where the hatches are now placed....oh wait... I did!! Lucky me! 😏 Hatches like this can be made to any watertight compartment on DIY boats so that you can inspect for leaks. And we use ferrets in Portugal, not little monkeys!
@@TheBoatRambler I am 100 percent sure that my handbag does not fit in your storage space! (lol) Now, I could imagine you would have thought all off that. Just throwing the bat into the hat. Although, I have 2 air chambers on my 1986 Olympic class, I would never think of drilling a hole in them. But that is of course a personal choice. And as for the ferrets, bring some pliers because those creatures won't let go of what they're holding! My grandfather also hunted with ferrets in Flanders, Belgium. But today over-regulation has put an end to that. But incredible creatures. I hope this tradition continues in Porugal! Other than that, I'm about to leave for Brittany, France to go sailing. Just a big bag and ...no recording device. All my photos are just in my head. But... still with my monkey on my back. Sailor greetings!
Masking tape applied to the bottom of the jig saw can prevent the saw from marring as well

Hey man great video! I watched some of your videos with my dad who admires your work so keep it up :D
That's awesome! Thanks!
Be careful using a power drill to turn bolt to snug a nylock nut. If you turn the bolt too fast the nylon in the nut melts and seizes the nut to the bolt. Don’t ask me why I know this…LOL!
